About US
Taiwan is an island-nation with high population density, limited natural resources, frequent natural disasters, and a special international position. Due to these circumstances, the necessity and urgency of pursuing sustainable development are more important compared with the situation in other countries. In step with global trends toward sustainable development, the Executive Yuan established the National Council for Sustainable Development (hereinafter referred to as the NCSD) in August 1997. In December 2002, the President promulgated the Basic Environment Act, in which Article 29 authorizes the NCSD’s official position.
